This tumblr's for all the great men and women of science for whom we owe our current understanding of the natural world; their achievements, their failures, and even their quirks, we celebrate them all.
For Science. For Inquiry. For Humanity.
A genetic migration map of the Y-chromosome in humans, divided into haplogroups i.e. groups linked by last common ancestor with a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) mutation.
Much like with the Mitochondrial Eve and human matrilines, human genetics proposes that there is a theoretical last common ancestor from whom all living humans are patrilineally descended from: the Y-chromosomal Adam.
Current studies suggest that Y-chromosomal Adam (or Adams) lived as early 60,000 years ago, around the time of the Out of Africa Migration and tens of thousands of years after Mitochondrial Eve.
